The First Snow for Frilly and Funkie

Hello friends! It's time for the Funkie side of the Frilly and Funkie Design Team to unveil their makes for Cec's challenge, 'Three Is Not A Crowd'.

Here is how Cec describes her theme: Create a vintage or shabby chic project that includes three of something. Examples of three of something could be three different patterned papers, three colours, three layers, three flowers, three bows - the list goes on. This would be a perfect time to use some of the new supplies you received for Christmas or to make space in your stash by using up old supplies. Just remember to think in multiples of three.

This is a super fun challenge, and really quite easy, since I think we tend to do things in three's naturally. I started off with an inky background using three colors: Distress Oxides in Cracked Pistachio and Iced Spruce and Tumbled Glass Distress ink. Obviously, I used three Christmas Paper Dolls. I colored them with Distress Markers in the same three colors and after cutting them apart, I layered them in three different heights, using adhesive foam on two of them, and the first adhered directly to the background.

There's three blue stamped Swirly Snowflakes that I inked in Cobalt Archival ink and clear embossed. There are also a trio of icy snowflakes using Tim's Snowflake stencil and Grit Paste. While the paste was wet, I sprinkled with  Rock Candy Distress Glitter.

I used the grit paste and glitter two more times (for a total of three, dare I add).  I made three snowballs out of half pearls covered in grit and glitter mixed with Stampendous Shaved Ice. This new to me lovely product was another of the 12 gifts my friend Autumn sent me for Christmas. Thank you, again, Autumn! I love this stuff! I used it again under the boy's feet, but it looks as if their little sister is above that messy stuff. I couldn't resist putting just a bit in her big brother's hand. I think he's up to no good!

I just love using the grit paste and glitter for the snowflakes. It couldn't look more like freshly fallen snow. Speaking of SNOW, I'm happy to say we have been enjoying our first and possibly our last snow of the season here in the coastal south. While it's a little treacherous driving on the side roads and walking, since there's a good layer of ice beneath it, it IS perfect for sledding! Woo Hoo! We've been having some real good fun!

Lastly, I used three layers of card over my card blank. A Christmas Clippings sticker fills in for my sentiment.

I hope you're inspired to play along with our challenge for a chance to win a $25 shopping spree at The Funkie Junkie Boutique

  1. Wow...this color combo is just so beautiful, Sara Emily! I love that you combined stenciled, textured snowflakes with stamped, embossed snowflakes. The contrast is striking. How clever to make snowballs with half back pearls! This is just such a happy winter scene, and I love all the wonderful ways you used three.

  3. hahaha! That mischievous trio is definitely up to no good with those snowballs all on the "ready" beside them, Sara Emily. Beautiful use of the oxides, and fantastic layering of your "paper dolls" although they look far away from being dolls, and quite the "hurry up and turn your back so we can throw these at you" sort of "dolls" LOL Thanks for the tip about "altering" pearls, too. huggers, de

  4. Love this card with those three imps just waiting to toss one of those fabulous and very cleverly made snowballs. The background just screams snow. If you want more once your snow disappears, I am more than happy to share since the pile at the end of the driveway is now 8 feet high.

  7. Oh, wow, Sara Emily! I love this! You've created such a wonderful scene. Love the snowballs and the boy holding one--so creative! You always showcase Tim's products wonderfully. So glad you got some snow. We had a nice snowfall then a bit of ice the other day. Temps will be near 60 on Friday so I guess it will melt a lot away. However, back in the 30s this weekend.

Sorry it's been a while since I have visited~I have been spending a lot of time with my father. He has been pretty sick since Thanksgiving and back and forth in the hospital and just now starting to see bits of improvement finally. He sure has been through an awful lot this past year...it makes me so sad that they have to struggle so much.
I hope you and your family had a nice Christmas and new Year! Wishing you the best in 2018 Sara~
    Hugs,

  32. What a gorgeous tag! I am in love with how you used different techniques on the snowflakes! As many times as I've seen the Tim Holtz paperdolls used, I don't remember ever seeing them layered to create a dimensional little grouping, so I thought that was brilliant! You've done a remarkable job here and I was so inspired by this piece. Thanks for taking the time to share it with us for this week's Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge!
